Raising awareness in Uganda of a new regional human rights instrument for social and economic rights

Uganda currently spends a very small portion of the public budget on social services, with the result that the vast majority of the population has limited income security.

A new protocol to the African Charter on 'Citizens' Rights to Social Protection and Social Security' contains a comprehensive description of regional standards for social services. The project produced information materials to raise awareness of the protocol in Uganda and show how it can be used as an advocacy tool.

Activities included research, preparation of a policy brief, media engagements, a public launch event, and workshops and meetings with key stakeholders.
