The project, realized with funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, involves the production of mealworms and black soldier fly larvae for use in food and feed in the Kyaka II refugee camp in Uganda.

The project aims to support the consolidation of the newly established Ngalo Buwereza Organization (NBO), which works to create better conditions and earnings for home-based workers in Uganda.

Supporting refugee and host community farmers and schools in Uganda to increase production of new sources of nutritious food and generate income

The project piloted the production of innovative new produce with a large potential as a source of income and nutrition through the production of edible insects for both human consumption and for sale as animal feed. The intervention worked with farmers’ associations among both refugees and host communities to strengthen their ability to support farmers to generate income.

Improving nutrition and income generating opportunities for refugees and host communities in Western Uganda

Building on experience and evidence gathered from an earlier pilot project, this project aimed to scale up livelihood opportunities in the production of edible insects by strengthening local farmers associations to better organise and support their members, and by introducing new business models based on the production of edible insects for food and feed.
