This project aims to improve the livelihoods of small family-run fish farms in the delta south of Yangon, Myanmar.

The civil war in Myanmar, which intensified significantly after the military coup in 2021, has severly impacted the economy. For people who make a living by producing fish in small family-run fish farms in the delta region south of Yangon, this has particularly meant rising costs for feed.

In this project, in collaboration with a local partner organization, we support the families to start production of soldier fly larvae, a source of fish feed that is cheap, sustainable and has a high nutritional value.

The production of soldier fly larvae requires access to large amounts of organic waste, which the larvae concert into protein. The project will therefore also support the people working with waste sorting in and around Yangon in order to both ensure access to organic waste and improve the livelihoods of the people sorting the waste.
